Claude Code vs Codex vs Gemini CLI vs Devin

Which AI coding agents can you use today, where do they run, and what do they cost to start?

All four are available today, and all four are user-directed: a person assigns the work and reviews it. They differ most in where they run and how you pay. Gemini CLI is free and open source to install; since June 18, 2026, Google serves it through paid API keys and Code Assist Standard or Enterprise licences, not a free tier. Claude Code comes with any paid Claude plan (from $20 a month) or Console pay-as-you-go. Codex comes with ChatGPT plans, expanded from Plus at $20 a month. Devin sells its own plans, from free to $200 a month. Performance claims are left out until independent tests are in the Index.
