Raspberry Pi AI HAT+ 2

An add-on board that gives a Raspberry Pi 5 a Hailo-10H AI accelerator and 8 GB of its own memory, so it can run camera vision models, and small language models, on the board itself.

    What the evidence says

    1. Independently verified

In Jeff Geerling's hands-on test (January 2026), YOLO-based vision models ran on the AI HAT+ 2 "10x faster than on the Pi's CPU". The Hailo-10H runs at a maximum of 3 W, against up to 10 W for the Pi's processor. CNX Software measured 7.2–7.6 W running DeepSeek R1 1.5B on a Raspberry Pi 5 with the board, against 10.2–10.6 W on its CPU-only setup, a different Raspberry Pi board; it doesn't say where power was measured.

    2. Company claim

Raspberry Pi presents the AI HAT+ 2 as bringing generative AI to the Raspberry Pi 5: a Hailo-10H accelerator rated at 40 TOPS (INT4) with 8 GB of on-board memory for language and vision-language models, launched with models including Llama 3.2 1B, Qwen2.5-Instruct 1.5B and DeepSeek-R1-Distill 1.5B.

    3. Independently verified

Both independent tests found the language models slower on the AI HAT+ 2 than on a Raspberry Pi CPU. Jeff Geerling wrote that the Pi's CPU "trounces the Hailo 10H", with the board close only on Qwen2.5-Coder 1.5B. CNX Software measured, for example, 6.72 tokens per second for DeepSeek R1 1.5B on the board against 9.04 on its CPU baseline, Raspberry Pi's Compute Module 5 development kit, so the comparison isn't like-for-like.

    4. Independently verified

Both testers described early software as immature in January 2026. Running two models at the same time ended in segmentation faults in Jeff Geerling's tests, and some of Hailo's example code hadn't been updated for the new board.

    5. Company claim

Raspberry Pi says the board connects to the Raspberry Pi 5 over PCI Express, follows its HAT+ specification, works with the Raspberry Pi camera software, matches the vision performance of the 26 TOPS AI HAT+, and operates at 0–50 °C.
