    What the evidence says

    1. Company claim

Haikubox says the box records bird songs and identifies birds 24/7 with a proprietary neural network trained on thousands of bird recordings, saving clips of up to 12 seconds to a cloud database. It needs a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network. Its pages don't say whether identification runs on the box or on servers.

    2. Company claim

Haikubox says the box works without a subscription or app login. The free tier shows only today's detections; Haikubox+ adds the past 30 days, live listening and notifications.

    3. Documented by company source

A 2025 Scientific Reports study led by Loggerhead Instruments, Haikubox's maker, with co-authors from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology's K. Lisa Yang Center for Conservation Bioacoustics, used recordings from 344 Haikuboxes across North America to study how birds responded to the April 2024 total solar eclipse. Because the maker led it, it is not independent.
